（英）Project for Upgrading Diploma Nurses
College of Health Technology, Ministry of Health
The Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic stated in “Health Strategy 2020” to ensure that all Lao people has access to health care services, and one of the important principles to achieve this goal is to improve the capacity of health staff at each level in order to ensure high quality services.
Nurses and Midwives play an important role in providing health care services. However, the level of these services is still low and there is urgent need to develop nurses and midwives with appropriate knowledge and techniques in order to improve the services.
The College of Health Technology is one the health institutions which plays a role of teaching the Diploma nurses, in collaboration with Faculty of Nursing, Khon-Kaen University from the year of 2000 to 2006 and 126 Diploma nurses have completed the Bachelor nursing degree. However, the number of professional graduated nurses in the Lao PDR is still low. In addition, the capacity to manage and implement the courses by themselves is not sufficient.
Therefore, the College of Health Technology has a strong demand to educate qualified nurses and to enhance the capacity for management and implementing the courses with ability to respond to the local needs and health issues. The continuation of the “Upgrading of Diploma Nurses” is crucial for the development and establishment of“Learning and Teaching in Nursing System", in order to improve the capacity of health staff for ensuring high quality of nursing services.
The quality of nursing education/services is improved in College of Health Technology (CHT), 5 provincial health schools and clinical training hospitals by qualified high-level nurses.
More than 90 high-level nurses (holding Bachelor degree) are qualified.
