The level of mathematics and Science Education in African countries will be improved.


プロジェクト目標


Teachers and educators can conduct lessons with more minds-on activities (activities that improve the ability of children to think more, using new strategies in conducting classes) based on Constructivist Approaches.


成果


At the end of the course, participants should be able to:
1. show an understanding of the nature, purpose and philosophy of constructivism;
2. implement constructivist aproaches and interactive teaching strategies to enhance student-centred leaning;
3. develop and tryout lessons/activities based on constructivist approaches in teaching and learning of primary science / mathematics; and
4. design constructivist-based assessment tools to gauge learning performance.


活動


a) Course content
The content of this course includes pedagogy, content knowledge, lesson plan and teaching forum or institutional visit. In these domains, there are theoretical understanding of the concept of constructivism, constructivist-based pedagogy, including various interactive approaches and strategies for active teaching and learning in primary science and mathematics, principles of instructional design and lesson planning based on constructivist approaches, lesson study approach to improve teaching of primary science / mathematics (incorporated into ‘theory into practice’), interdisciplinary and contextualized understanding of science and mathematics at primary level (selected topics based on African/Malaysian science curricula), Planning,
designing, developing and trying out sample lesson plans/modules with emphasis on constructivism-based pedagogy and assessment, developing non-ICT instructional aids using locally available/discarded/low cost materials as well as a forum to exchange teaching experiences between local and African educators /teachers (through institutional visit) and understanding of educational development in relation to socio-economic development by comparing African and ASEAN/Malaysian scenarios

b) Course methodology
The course will be conducted through lectures, discussions, practical experiences, group work, and study visits
